The Presidential Power Initiative (PPI) continues to progress under the mandate of Mr President to expeditiously deliver improved power supply to industrial clusters, households and businesses.
Key representatives of the project implementation team met with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to provide a comprehensive progress update. The high-level briefing served as a strategic review of Phase 1, focusing on the critical upgrades currently transforming Nigeria’s transmission and distribution networks.
During the session, the team and the President delved into the core operational pillars of the initiative.
Key discussion points included:
• Accelerated Schedules: A rigorous review of procurement and delivery timelines for critical power equipment to ensure stay-on-track deployment.
• Clearing Bottlenecks: Identifying and resolving regulatory and operational hurdles, with the President pledging his full support to fast-track essential approvals.
• Proven Impact: An analysis of how completed projects under the pilot phase such as Ajah,Birnin Kebbi, Eleyele etc. are already stabilizing and improving the national grid’s performance.
President Tinubu underscored the non-negotiable role of electricity in national survival, stating: “There is no industrial growth or economic development without power, and power is the most significant discovery of humanity in the last 1,000 years.”
To further amplify the PPI’s reach, the President directed the expansion of several major transformer substations from two to three phases, significantly boosting the potential power supply across the country. He further assured the delegation that the Federal Government remains committed to providing the necessary resources to see the project through to completion.
The meeting concluded with a clear directive: accelerate execution. With renewed targets and firm presidential backing, the PPI team is now focused on fast-tracking the remaining project components. This commitment reinforces the government’s unwavering goal of delivering stable, reliable, and sustainable electricity to power economic growth in Nigeria.
