As the Federal Government commissioned a 3.1 megawatts of solar hybrid power plant for the nation’s premier military institution, the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), in Kaduna, the Commandant of the academy, Major General AK 7Ibrahim and other stakeholders of the institution could not curtail their joy for overcoming one of the most challenging issues facing the institution.
The Commandant said the plant “will reduce our reliance on the national grid by at least 50 percent, thereby enhancing our capacity to deliver on our goals to provide comfort to our staff and to our cadets”.

Beyond powering the institution, the project will enhance infrastructure by rehabilitating the existing distribution networks, installing solar powered streetlights for improved security, and establishing a world class renewable energy training centre in the academy. The solar project will cater for a population of 12,368 members of the academic community.
“It is with gratitude and pride that I stand before you today at the commencement of the ceremony of both the 2.5 megawatt hybrid solar power plant and the phase one of the 600 kilowatts 4-2 volt-type solar power project here at the Nigerian Defence Academy. This initiative marks a significant step in our commitment to sustainability and energy security, aligning with the Nigerian government’s vision for the diversified and resilient energy landscape”, the Commandant said, as he added that the project would propel the academy to continue to maintain its role as the premier institution in training and education in Nigeria.
He extolled the commitment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to energizing the country, as he promised the entire country during his campaigns.
