Abuja, Nigeria – The Presidential Power Initiative (PPI) continues to progress under the mandate of Mr President to expeditiously deliver improved power supply to industrial clusters, households and businesses. FGN Power Company has successfully received ten (10) power transformers and ten (10) mobile substations from Siemens Energy. These are being deployed at key sites across the country, increasing transmission capacity constraints in the transmission sector by over 700MW. Notable sites include Okene, Amukpe, Potiskum, Apo, Ihovbor, Birnin Kebbi, Ajah, Nike Lake, Kwanar Dangora, Maryland, Omouaran, Ojo, among others.
Today, the FGN Power Company (FGNPC) announced the signing of a major Engineering, Procurement, Construction, and Financing (EPC&F) contract with China Machinery Engineering Corporation (CMEC) for the rehabilitation and construction of 330kV and 132kV Transmission Lines under Phase I of the Presidential Power Initiative (PPI). The contract, valued at US$328,818,916.99, will ensure efficiency and prevent stranded capacity in the grid, these projects have been strategically divided into two priority batches. Priority 1 comprises seven (7) brownfield and ten (10) greenfield lines, totalling 544km with a load capacity of 7,140MW.
To significantly increase electricity reliability and accessibility for millions of Nigerians, FGNPC is upgrading the transmission network through this project. This upgrade is carefully designed to complement the transmission and downstream injection substations to reduce stranded capacities in the network, which will improve power delivery to residential, commercial, and industrial clusters nationwide.
The Honourable Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership: “This project marks a significant step towards achieving our goal of reliable and sustainable electricity for all Nigerians. We are committed to working with top-tier partners like CMEC to deliver on this promise.”

Mr Kenny Anuwe, Managing Director of FGN Power Company, stated: “We are delighted to partner with CMEC on this transformative project. Their proven expertise and commitment to excellence make them ideal partners for delivering this critical infrastructure. Siemens, known for its strengths in advanced technology and innovation, does not specialise in distribution lines. This partnership with CMEC will ensure the highest quality and efficiency in delivering the necessary infrastructure”. Together, we will combine our strengths and deliver comprehensive solutions to meet Nigeria’s growing energy and infrastructure needs.”
The project will deliver seven (7) brownfield and ten (10) greenfield lines, 544km in length with a load capacity of 7,140MW. FGNPC has worked closely with the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) and Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) to develop a comprehensive project definition aligned with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
Vice President of SINOMACH, Mr. Li Xiaoyu commented: ” Since entering the Nigerian market in the 1990s, CMEC has undertaken a wide range of engineering and construction projects across various sectors, including power and energy, infrastructure and etc. The total value of completed projects in Nigeria has exceeded USD 2 billion, including the Omotosho Power Plant Phases I and II, the Sapele Power Plant Rehabilitation Project, and the Zungeru Hydropower Station, among others. For PPI project under FMOP and FGNPC, CMEC pay high attention to this project. CMEC will allocate the best resources for this project to ensure its completion with high quality, on schedule, and in full compliance with the required standards. Once the project is underway, it will also create a large number of employment opportunities. Together, we are not just constructing power lines—we are energizing dreams, empowering communities, and lighting the path to a brighter, more prosperous Nigeria. CMEC stands shoulder-to-shoulder with you in this mission, and we pledge to honor this trust with action, excellence, and unwavering dedication”.
